Sometimes it’s the Little Things…

on November 22, 2011

Sometimes it’s the little things that just make your day, you know?  I mean, I know there are really big things to be thankful for this season:  family, friends, health, etc…and I’m really thankful for those.  But today, as I got ready for work, the little things just made my day.  Here are five:

1)  Clean socks.  Yeah, I know.  But we’ve been busy lately, and finding a pair, the GOOD pair of comfy socks to wear beneath my boots today was awesome.

2)  A bagel.  Somehow, even though I haven’t had time to hit the grocery store, there were fresh bagels (pumpkin no less) in the pantry!

3)  The coffee pot was scheduled.  Yeah, this is a huge one for me.  I always forget to hit the on button before I go to bed.  It was on today!

4)  My phone was charged!  Like many people, I truly believe, I drop my phone in odd places all over the house and forget to charge it before heading to work the next day.  Today, it was right where it was supposed to be in the charger.

5) My gas tank was full.  I vaguely remember making a mental note coming home from work yesterday that I needed to get gas today.  But it was FULL!

Now, those of you much quicker than me are figuring out that these small blessings come from a really big one.  A six-foot-five, dark, very sexy Italian who I live with.  Big Tone hit the grocery store on his way home from work last night, folded the socks I’d left in the den, scheduled the coffee pot, found and charged my phone…and put gas in my car after taking our son to bball practice last night.  All without saying a word.

So…in this season of being thankful, I am SO THANKFUL for big Tone.  Everyone should have a sexy Italian in their house.  🙂

How Many Architects, Electricians, Geologists and Senators does it take to solve a 7th Grade geometry problem?

on November 17, 2011

So, I’ve been pretty busy with Hunted copy edits, but just had to share.  My husband (Architect # 1) was at a basketball practice with one of his partners (Architect # 2).  They received a text message from my brother-in-law (Electrician) who was trying to help my seventh grade niece with her homework in geometry.

No…I don’t remember what the problem wasSomething about three corners of a square in a rectangle, or something like that.  Well, the three men couldn’t agree.  So my husband contacted his other partner (Architect # 3), who came up with a completely different answer.  (Keep in mind, this is while basketball practice was going on, and these guys are the coaches.)

So, Hubby texted his uncle, who is a geologist.  The geologist was at a political dinner with a bunch of state senators.  He and two of the senators (one Democrat, one Republican) sketched the answer out on a napkin and forwarded it to my husband.  YES.  Bi-partisan politics is possible…if we’re taking about 7th grade geometry.

Well…they all came up with what they thought was the answer (3) and sent it to my brother-in-law.  My niece got her paper back yesterday…and the answer, was, ah,  5.    🙂

Today’s My Birthday…

on November 14, 2011

UPDATE:  The winner is:  Helene Robin – Congrats!

The secret to staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age.”  Lucille Ball

Yeah, it’s true.  November 14th is my birthday.  I’m a Scorpio.  The family went out to dinner last night for both Steph and my birthdays (hers was the 8th).  Today is also my nephew’s birthday–what an awesome present he was ten years ago!

I’ve had a lot of great birthdays.  Okay, not A LOT.  But a few.  Though it’s the odd ones I really remember.  A waiter accidentally dumping an entire pitcher of ice water over my head when I turned eight.  I was wearing a cute green and white dress that had a cat in the front.  Odd that I remember that.  My first slumber party when I was twelve and we got snow in.  The first time I tried tequilla – when I turned 21.  Still don’t like tequilla.

Anyway…I’d like to celebrate today.  One commenter can choose either a signed copy of Fated or a signed copy of Claimed from my blog this week.  Just leave a comment.  What was your favorite birthday?
