Guest Author SAYDE GRACE is Obsessive…

UPDATE:  Rosalie Lario won the signed ARC of FATED.  Congrats, Rosalie!

Are All Authors Obsessive? Hello everyone! I’m so glad to be here today and thank Rebecca a thousand times over for letting me take over her blog today. A few days ago she sent me an email asking if I knew what I wanted to talk about today. I hadn’t given much thought to it, as usually something will come up and inspire me to rant or tell a story for guest blogging. This time was no different. When she texted me yesterday asking if I’d figured it out yet, I had to laugh. Yes, I had figured it out and knew my subject fit her as well as myself.

As an author sometimes I’ll get obsessed with writing a scene or in my case, this past two weeks I’ve been writing a sex scene that involves tons of emotions. Poor Rebecca, she has to read my scenes as I obsess over whether they are good enough, emotional enough, or sexy enough. I’ve been putting off writing on two of my current projects because both were at a point that they needed some serious emotion in the next scene. Finally, after much ignoring it, I sat down and wrote one scene out. I have to say, I feel so much better with that scene behind me. But now is where I will begin to really obsess over the scenes. I won’t be able to help it.

And if that’s not enough, a little birdie told me that switching to another web hosting site was so much better. This little bird was thrilled with her change, so much so that I changed my website too. Let me just say that if I could have pulled my BB gun out and shot that bird out of the sky I would have! Unfortunately, I couldn’t board a plane with my weapon and I’m sure by the time I got to Idaho the bird would have figured out what I was up to and would have been waiting on me with a potato gun big enough to blow me back to Alabama.

So for the last week I’ve been OBSESSING over my website. The story doesn’t end there. Nope my neurosis continues. I emailed my editor at The Wild Rose Press to see if she’d read my last novella. Seconds after I hit send I get a reply. She’s reading it now. GREAT!! I just HAD to know, right! Now I’m really going crazy here. Ever heard of that movie/book Crazy in Alabama? Well I haven’t cut my husband’s head off, stuffed it in a hat box, and traveled to Hollywood to star on Bewitched, but at this point my head is in jeopardy.

And my last piece of my mind is totally fixed on my upcoming release, UNTAMABLE–the first in my Moonlight Cravings series, with Siren Publishing. I just finished my cover questionnaire and I’m hoping I’ll get my edits soon. But for the mean time I have my cover blurb (with much help from Rebecca) so here ya go, I hope you all like it 🙂 :

Waking up tattooed, mated and a werewolf would shock most people but for Siddalee Brighton it’s just another day. Siddalee has always held a burning hunger for her best friend, werewolf Jasper Gandillion. But she never realized what belonging to the animal within him would mean until he marks her in a show of passion and dominance, awakening the werewolf inside her.

Siddalee was the first of many illegal breeding experiments that Luna Werewolf Nation Alpha, Dane Velham created and the only one strong enough to stop the monster from torturing other women and creating more experiments. Will being the daughter of the monster who slaughtered Jasper’s pack destroy the love and lust between Siddalee and Jasper or will they emerge as the new Alpha’s of the Luna Werewolf Nation?

So, Rebecca has agreed to give away one signed ARC of FATED to a lucky commenter.  We’ll draw a name later this week.

What are some of the things that you obsess about? And as a reader do you obsess over books? I know for myself there are two books that just came out that I’m fixed on buying! Just as soon as I get to town they are soooo mine. Thanks for having me today and letting me rant a little about the things that have preoccupied my time lately!! (Fear not, the little birdie in Idaho will not be harmed by my BB gun, for now. 🙂 Have a good one y’all!

Obsessing over word count during the holidays! Aieeee!

    1. Isnt’ that the truth, Chris? If Santa really liked me, he’d bring a magic computer that just plugged into my brain. 🙂

    2. Sayde Grace says:

Yes, I will be doing that too!!

  2. danicaavet says:

Obsession…I have so many. Le sigh. Any time I send out a query, I obsess over my inbox, refreshing it every twenty seconds. When I leave a comment somewhere, I obsess over whether people think it’s funny or stupid. When I post on my blog, I obsess over whether anyone’s read it. I could seriously drive myself insane if I wasn’t there already.

Is it just me, or does it feel like the Southern ladies are taking over SirenBookStrand? You, Jillian, me…watch out world!

    1. Danica, the second I met your little southern group, I knew you’d take over the world. The plot was already brewing… 🙂

    2. Sayde Grace says:

Haha, watch out world here we come!! We can totally take over! I see it coming now, but we just have to avoid rivers with boats!

      1. danicaavet says:

        There goes my houseboat idea!

      2. SaydeGrace says:

Haha, who are you kidding? If that boat got near the bushes we’d both be swimming!

  3. I think we all are obsessive, it comes with the love of creating a story…I love the hot covers and the books sound like yummy reads….

    1. Savannah: I agree. We all have our little obessions…and it’s usually whatever story we’re working on right now. Thanks for dropping by! 🙂

    2. Sayde Grace says:

Thanks! I actually like my covers too! I’m so glad I’m not the only writer who obsesses.

  4. Lynn Rush says:

Yep, I’d say I’m pretty obsessive, like Savannah said, I think most writers are. Comes with the territory, I think.

I don’t so much obsess about if my agent has read something, or to which house she’s submitted or whatever. I just know and trust she’s out there, trying to sell my work, and she’ll let me know if I get a rejection or offer. Until then, I’ll stay obsessed with writing.

Yep. I must write or edit every day, it’s like a drug now, I think. 🙂

I’m wishing you the BEST with all your writing, Sayde!! 🙂

    1. Hi Lynn! Great interview of you today over on ! I agree that once you open the floodgates to writing, there’s no closing them. Have a great day! 🙂

    2. Sayde Grace says:

I need my flood gates to stay open. They keep getting damned up somehow!!

  5. lol. If you bribe me with enough Southern food, I’ll traipse over to said Birdie’s house and throw stuff at her for you! Just kidding, birdie.

    I love obsessions. Great topic!

    1. Bonnie: Combine you and Sayde and it’d be an interesting battle, but you’d both still go down. 🙂 Have a good one!

    2. Sayde Grace says:

How bout some grits?? I’ll send you a bunch as a bribe! Though if you have cheese the birdie might steal them. Congrats on selling to Carina!!(I guess thats spelled right??)

  6. Yeah, I obsess over pretty much anything. I obsess over a recently released book I want to have. I obsess over upcoming releases from my favorite authors. And most of all I obsess over my own story once I’ve started plotting or writing it. 🙂

    1. Rosalie: I’m with you. Whatever book I’m working on, those characters are filling my brain at all times. Makes driving down the road interesting… 🙂

    2. Sayde Grace says:

LOL, I know just how you feel!! Obsession is an obsession in its own!

  7. I admit I can be obsessive sometimes, especially ablout my writing. And I think about all my plots in all my books all the times.

    1. Sayde Grace says:

So true! Plots swirl around in my head all the time!

  8. Danielle James says:

This is such a good blog Sayde. The things I obsess about.. Well my bills is number one. Then comes my books. They need to be in abc order and reading order on my bookshelves. If not I totally freak and have to redue them. And now I’m super excited to add your books to my to read list 🙂 you can never have enough books to read!!! *winks*

    1. Sayde Grace says:

OMG, that just cracks me up! Once upon a time I had my books in ABC too!! Now, not so much but still!

  9. Great post! Oh man, well, I occasionally obsess over cheesecake but I’m trying to break that habit. I guess my most persistent obsession is tinkering with my writing. If I waited till I was really happy with 100 percent of it before submitting, well, I’d never submit. And I’ve been known to over-tinker and then have to undo it. 🙂

    1. Sayde Grace says:

      I occasionally over-tink too! It’s a killer!

  10. I think an easier question would be: What do I NOT obsess about? Here’s a quick list of demons gnawing at my mind:
    1. Should I revise this ONE MORE TIME before submitting it?
    2. Did they get my email or am I lost in cyber-space?
    3. Did I mispell that freakin’ word through the ENTIRE manuscript or only in tweny or so places?
    4. OMG – did I mispell her name (insert agent or editor here)? Or was it HIS name?

    1. Sayde Grace says:

OMG # 4 is the best!! I’ve done that a few times. Agents really should have a warning by their name when it’s something like Alex, Kevon, Randi, etc. I mean come on!!

And you know what, my first MS I spelled my heroines name using the male version through the entire ms. The ladies in my local RWA chapter thought it was a gay romance at first! Um no, but hey they liked it 🙂
